Level Up Your Home Studio Setup

Something really cool happened to me this week, and still can't believe it.

I got interviewed for a podcast I’ve been listening to for over a decade: Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income.

That show was a huge for me back when I was working my full-time job, driving back and forth, and trying to soak up every little nugget of marketing advice I could.

List building. Email marketing. Community. If Pat talked about it, I was taking mental notes in the car.

So to hop on a call with him as a guest was honestly surreal.

And Pat could not have been nicer. It was one of those conversations that felt easy and fun, and I can’t wait for the episode to come out.

And I took a big win out of the call (besides just being on his show)!

The moment we connected on video, Pat looked at my setup and said something like, “Man, I really appreciate when I talk with someone who knows what they’re doing with video.” And during the interview he mentioned my lighting and camera setup again.

And I hear that from people a lot.

“How do you blur the background like that?”
“What lights are you using?”
“How does your video look so crisp?”

So I decided to break it all down.

Here’s everything I mention in the episode:

Quick note: you do not have to build a setup like this overnight. I’ve put this together over years, piece by piece, and I’m still tweaking it (because… of course I am).

But if you’re trying to level up your video quality from “fine” to “oh wow,” this episode will save you a ton of time and guesswork.

Hit reply and tell me: what are you currently using for your setup? Even if it’s just a phone and a window, I’d love to hear what you’re working with.

Thanks,

Paul G

Hey Reader, I’m calling it right now: my new year starts this week. I got sick right around New Year’s, and it knocked me off my normal rhythm. No guilt. No dramatic “I failed already” story. Just a simple decision: we start now. If your year has felt like that too, I’d love to hear from you. Hit...

I just got back from Ecamm’s Creator Camp in Portsmouth, NH, and it got me thinking: are conferences really worth it for creators? If you’ve ever asked yourself questions like these… Is attending a conference a good investment or just an expensive trip? How do you make sure you walk away with more than a stack of business cards? What’s the best balance between sitting in sessions and actually networking? …then you’ll want to watch this week’s Creator News Live. I sat down with my friend Jeff...
